Lessons

Our lessons will be casual, relaxed and fun. Just bring your bass and a cable, and a sense of adventure. We chill, we explore, we learn. And we will have a great time while doing our work.

It’s all a step by step process, through which I will guide you.

Expect to put in a certain amount of effort. It’s a simple equation of effort = success.

Importantly, I will continue to help you establish excellent practice habits and a continuously-updated practice schedule so you won’t get derailed or frustrated.

I will help you break down your challenges into a series of what I like to call “doable chunks”.

It works!

We will also discuss in-depth, the importance of constructive band interaction, and how to achieve it. We will strive to constantly improve our skills in this area.

This is critical to the success of the music itself and to your success as a musician.

For beginning players, based on your experience level, we would most likely concentrate on getting your technique going as our first priority.

That includes the fretting hand and the plucking hand.

I’ve created a series of technique exercises that are proven to be extremely effective at developing good technique rapidly. The goal is to make playing music effortless.

These exercises also make an awesome warm-up and strength maintenance routine that you can use throughout your bass playing endeavors for years to come.

We’ll also be starting early on, learning where all the notes live on the neck. You will see results immediately.

Along the way, we will use some exemplary recordings to study bass parts and how they’re built.

We will definitely be learning songs. Songs that you want to learn and songs that I might recommend.

This will serve as a solid introduction to harmony and theory as applied on the bass fretboard.

That’s when you can start to create your own bass parts that really work well.

For intermediate players, if you already know your fretboard well, then we can jump ahead to Fretboard harmony and theory, either the basics or as in-depth as you would like to go.

And we can dive head first into our exploration of various styles.

For advanced students, we will delve into all sorts of exciting things like jazz improvisation and linear harmony and theory in-depth.

For students of ALL levels, we can fine tune songs that you may be preparing to perform with a band or for a recording project or an audition.
